“The Maldives offers one of the best returns on investment in the world.”

In just eight years, Seahouse has expanded to include restaurants and guesthouses. Now, a five-start resort is to follow. CEO Ismail Faseeh discusses business operations on inhabited islands.

Can you tell us more about your business ventures?
Seahouse Maldives started out as a restaurant eight years ago. Now, the company has expanded to two restuarants in Malé, one in Villingili, one in Addu and another in Hulhumalé. We are opening guesthouses with the restaurants in Villingili and Addu. The development in Hulhumalé should soon have a guesthouse, as well.

Why focus on inhabited islands?
We came up with the following idea: offer an “affordable luxury” experience with local flair. Hulhumalé is growing fast as a tourist destination and it offers a lot of facilities. Its connection to the airport makes things easier for tourists. Villingili is a success, however, one common thing that our guests want is a private beach for sunbathing. The outlook here in not the same as in Malé – private beaches would be a solution for the sunbathing aspect.

What message would you give to foreign investors?
The Maldives offers one of the best returns on investment (ROI) in the world. Where else can you find a place where you can get your ROI in six to seven years?
