Chinese investment pours into Europe

China’s informal grouping of Eastern European nations, known as “16+1,” is where the Silk Road’s economic diplomacy mission has gathered the greatest political dividends on the continent.

But even in a region stricken by economic woes, China has experienced some pushback.

Eliciting political support for Beijing’s activities in the South China Sea, Tibet and elsewhere will require much more involvement in the region, as well as a concerted effort to address concerns about the intent of Chinese investment in Eastern Europe.
