The Maldives headlines at ITB

Thousands of journalists attend the ITB annually.

The Maldivian tourism industry got its time to shine this March at ITB Berlin, the world’s largest tourism trade event, which unites big-name international hotels, tour operators and airlines. As the ITB fair’s partner country, the Maldives held particular importance in the event, more so because Europe is its biggest regional tourist source market, with Germany itself being a key national market.

At the fair’s main event, the Maldives exhibited world-class tourism offerings to an audience of over 2,500 key industry players. This year, Maldivian cuisine and culture were showcased, together with exhibitions of stunning biodiversity. The country’s success in adapting to sustainable tourism development was also highlighted.

The ITB fair gives industry representatives opportunities to network with tourist boards and other international tourism figures. All told, the fair attracts upwards of 11,000 exhibitors from 180 countries, and is attended by roughly 200,000 visitors.
